Catherine Kwong Brings Mick and Bianca to SF Decorator Showcase

SF Decorator Showcase
Catherine Kwong’s Living Room for the SF Decorator Showcase

This is probably one of my favorite rooms in a SF Decorator Showcase home ever.

Calling it a “rock ‘n roll hideaway,” Catherine Kwong’s living room for the Showcase home at 2800 Pacific was inspired by Mick and Bianca Jagger’s glamorous jet-setting look of the early ’70s.

Without doubt, the star of the room is the dramatic painted floor, which was inspired by the iconic paintings of Cy Twombly. The floor was hand-painted in exuberant brushstrokes by decorative painting firm, Stancil Studios.

Catherine’s gorgeous, glossy floor, and white walls, beautifully highlight the room’s ornate ceiling.

“I loved the intricate detail of the original ceiling,” says Kwong. “It’s very traditional, which is not usually my style, but gorgeous, and really deserved a room that let it shine. The ceiling presented an interesting challenge: how do you design a room around such a classical and stately element, while still making the space feel fresh and modern?”

The vintage Italian light fixtures by Mario Yagi, and black and white photograph by Henry Leutwyler, adds to the glamorous yet edgy look of the room.

If this divine room is an indication of things to come, then not only is this year’s showcase going to be one of its best, but Catherine Kwong (whom I’ve not yet met), could be the next big star in San Francisco design.

The 2013 San Francisco Decorator Showcase, to be held at 2800 Pacific, is open April 27th to May 27th, 2013. Order tickets here:
