Who’s Wearing What This Week

You undoubtedly know that Wednesday and Friday are opening nights of the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Opera (respectively.)

Here is a sampling of what you can expect to see adorning some of our City’s most fashionable on both evenings.

Symphonix Gala Chair Michelle Curtis will be wearing a custom-made black dress by Emily Jane, accessorized by Judith Ripka. Her Co-Chair, Christopher Contos will be donning a Ted Baker tuxedo, slippers by Taryn Rose and cufflinks by Boucheron.

Showing family support, Roberta Economidis states “I went to Neiman’s and purchased a Grecian style Badgley Mischka gown in honor of my Greek cousin chairing gala.”

Be on the lookout for Symphonix President Kathryn Pellegrini Inglin in a strapless saphire Carmen Marc Valvo gown with a black beaded empire waist; husband Damian Inglin chose Roberto Zanieri. Not to be outdone by the Greek family pride, Kathtyn’s father Richard Pellegrini “will be as particular as ever and in his Italian ethnic ways in a black Zegna tuxedo, with a Stefano Ricci black long tie and vest accented by rhinestones, a white hankie with pressed points (not a puff), and black Todds patent leather shoes. (Like a good Italian man he will be wearing his gold.) Mama Pellegrini will be in San Francisco’s own Lily Samii.”

“Taking more of a risk and going for elegance with an 80′s edge ” Kelly Grimes will be modeling strapless black Alexander McQueen Couture with a hot pink belt. Kelly will accessorize with her grandmother’s ring from Gump’s, Judith Ripka, and Jimmy Choos.

Plan to see Libby Leffler rocking Monique Lhullier, complemented by a Judith Leiber “Barbie Silhouette” clutch and more Jimmy Choos.

Proving that men have a place in the fashion game as well, Kevin Whittaker is wearing a Blind Bunney Couture ascot from his new line, accented by a Cavalli suit.

Sassy, Lisa Ligon will be donning a Nicole Miller rose colored dress with silver lace.

Newlywed Linda Coates‘ appropriately-hued white Ralph Lauren dress was selected by her husband Tom, who is sporting Armani; both are accessorizing with wedding bands.

In a nod to the classic, Maria Sullivan chose a navy blue vintage Balenciaga dress.

Recession savvy fashionistas include Laura Miller who “shopped in her closet and found wearing a periwinkle and royal blue Chloe gown, ” and Top Chef finalist Casey Thompson who borrowed a designer gown from Layne Gray’s Vivanista’s VivaSwap program.

D&G is the choice for Zen St. Clair. And last but never least, Gail DeMartini will wear local favorite Colleen Quen.

Lily Samii is dressing several women for the Symphony and the Opera. At the Symphony, Gretchen Kimball will be wearing Lily’s port duchess satin gown with lace embellishment and a port organza shawl collar jacket. And Elizabeth Folger will be wearing a peacock tiered chiffon gown.

At the Opera, these women are all wearing Lily Samii:

Victoria Yaeger Sawyer will be wearing a royal violet taffeta gown with matching head piece. The gown is embellished with black lace and is as grand as the event.

Linda Kemper will be wearing an embroidered “Sand Dune” tulle ball gown embellished in copper with a “Tarnished Copper” crisp shantung jacket.

Gretchen Kimball will be wearing a black duchess satin gown with lace embellishments and a matching bolero jacket.

Diane Rubin will be wearing an “African Violet” gown lined in “Blue Grotto” designed especially for her. An investigation in shape and color, the gown is made of a rich duchess satin silk that is sculpted around her bust and torso revealing glimpses of Blue Grotto waves underneath folds of violet. The gown is soft but structured at the same time; the exciting and restless top part of the gown is balanced by the quiet and narrow bottom revealing a sexy front slit.

And Karen Caldwell will be wearing an “Antique Pink & Olive Gold” lace fitted strapless gown with a frothy tulle skirt that was designed especially for her. The gown exudes royalty and lightness — a queen floating on cloud 9, if you will. The lace gown is molded onto Ms.Caldwell’s perfect silhouette leaving no room for imagination while the flirty tulle skirt wants to reach out to everyone in the room with a wink and a smile!
