Symphonix recently hosted their Summer Membership Event at Redford. The bar, which has been attracting San Francisco trend-setters upon opening just a short time ago, with its whole-heartedly American vibe, served as the perfect compliment to the "Americana Affair." Guests sipped wine from William Hill or La Marca Prosecco bubbles and enjoyed horsdâ€™oeuvres provided by Redford. While complimentary for Symphonix members, all who attended had the opportunity to join and be part of the San Francisco Symphonyâ€™s young professional league. The 200+ attendees were treated to another amazing Symphonix event thrown by Event Chairs Liz Curtis and Christopher Lee along with Symphonix President Ye-Hui.
On Saturday, April 13th, 2013, Miljenko 'Mike' Grgich celebrated his 90th Birthday and many of years of accomplishment with a gorgeous evening affair at Grgich Hills Estate Winery. The event, managed and developed by Donte R. Young, the Founder and Managing Principal of the FinMarc Group, was one fit for wine royalty. Guest arrived to the black-tie affair and were lead through a progressive cocktail hour which highlighted Mike's many accomplishments. Accomplishments such as the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that bested several white Burgundy wines in the Judgement of Paris, which Mike was the noted winemaker behind and his induction to the Culinary Institute of America Vinetner's Hall of Fame as well as the Smithsonian; were all featured in various way's throughout the winery venue. There was a wonderful four course dinner prepared by Chef Shannon Kelly of Oak Av. Catering Company whose dishes highlighted the pairing of many great Grgich Hills Estate Wines and the Inaugural release of the Paris Tasting Chardonnay. It concluded with a beautiful, heartfelt thank you from Mike, and him signing bottles and taking pictures, with all the guest that were in attendance. Overall it was a memorable and stunning evening, in celebration of one of Napa Valley's most beloved individuals.
San Francisco Symphony fans recently gathered for a launch party at the Macyâ€™s on Union Square in anticipation of the Symphonyâ€™s first Spring Gala, featuring R&B singer, songwriter, and fashion icon Janelle Monae performing with the Orchestra. The 2013 Spring Gala featured Monae's funky, soulful hip-hop and R&B style in combination with brand new orchestral arrangements of her songs, plus new material from her upcoming album. The Spring Gala raised money for the Symphony's education programs, which reach over 75,000 children each year.

Membership co-Chairs Schuyler Hudak and Libby Leffler hosted the launch party and kicked off the well-attended evening with brief remarks, followed by UCSF Partners in Care President Katie Budge, who spoke about the services that the auxiliary organization provides to the hospital. UCSF Partners in Care works with UCSF hospital staff to fund programs that provide comfort and well-being to patients and their families while visiting the UCSF medical center. Guests enjoyed spirited greyhounds nicknamed "Doctor's Orders," and a "Members Only" wine special while noshing on sweet treats from Kara's Cupakes, and savory sliders and arancini from Cedar Hill Kitchen and Smokehouse. On Thursday, February 21, 2013, hiip hosted the San Francisco launch of their collection of bags that are not only fashionable, but give back to the Bay Area community. The locally based company donates a â€œhiip Kitâ€ of toiletries to various shelters in San Francisco everytime a hiip bag is purchased. The event was held at Alibi Restaurant and Lounge with fashionistas and philanthropists from around the city in attendance. Guests enjoyed â€œhiip-tiniâ€ cocktails and bites while browsing the showroom display of hiip bags. The various styles fall into four designs: Sunset, Marina, Mission and Pac Heights with the patterns emulating the lifestyles of each area. The founder, Nicole Flowers was on hand to help guests style their bags that can be worn as a regular purse, across the body or on the â€œhiip.â€ Nicole spoke to the guests about her inspiration for the hiip collection that is designed, manufactured and benefits the San Francisco community.
