It was in her 1984 autobiography that Diana Vreeland wrote that “Scent, although you can’t see it, is as important to a well-turned-out woman as her makeup, her nail varnish, her pearls…”
This year it wasn’t just the woman who looked gorgeous at the Opera Gala, the men dazzled too! Here’s our selection of the most striking fashion duos, which includes Opera Ball co-chair Mai Shiver, beautiful in fuschia, with Colin Cowie, the celebrity party planner who made this years event one of the most memorable yet. We also adore the risk-taking looks of Ricky Serbin, Joel Goodrich, and Derek Holbrook, who prove that men can be both formal and fashionable at night.
Neiman Marcus, with Barbara Brookins and Gail Glasser, recently hosted a reception and book signing in honor of Gladys Perint Palmer, author of the wonderful new book, “Adam and Yves.”
The book provides a tongue-in-cheek history of fashion. As Valentino Garavani remarked, “her drawings have life.” And the book is indeed a lively thing to read, with every turn of the page showing an unexpected juxtaposition of major moments in world history and fashion.

Neiman Marcus and Vanity Fair, with writer Amy Fine Collins, recently hosted a luncheon in celebration of Vanity Fair’s 2013 International Best Dressed List. Guests included some of the West Coast’s best dressed women, such as Vanessa Getty, Pamela Joyner, and Sobia Shaikh. It also provided an opportunity to meet Alan Morell, the new general manager for Neiman Marcus’s Union Square store, following the move of our beloved John Capizzi to Bergdorf Goodman in New York.
Viroxoty Studios recently paired up with Neiman Marcus in San Francisco to celebrate the fun of fashion at the store’s special Fashion Rules! party.
