I’m sure it’s no surprise to SFLuxe readers that the most divine dress currently for auction at ebay is being offered by San Francisco vintage expert Ricky Serbin (who was just featured in the big new book, “American Fashion,” published by Assouline.)
The beaded tulle dress you see above (size 6) is from the Chanel Fall 2007 collection. It retailed for $32,445, but current bidding is around $7,500. And if you buy it maybe you can get Ricky to tell you which of the “world’s most famous fashion editors” it belonged to first (if you’re guessing who I think you’re guessing, you’re probably right.)
I’m always amazed by the treasures Ricky gets for his store. He travels all over the world locating just the perfect items. Just last month he made a quick trip to New York for the 7th on Sale gala, to which he had donated some items by Yves Saint Laurent and Dior. While there he picked up some wonderful pieces by Oscar de la Renta, Prada, and others (go to his ebay store to see if any are available for purchase.)
He told me that when he was at the event he ran into all sorts of designers and celebrities. “I was trying on a Valentino cashmere coat, and Mr. Valentino was helping me with the fit. Michael Kors signed a dress I bought, and Donna Karan reached for a Vuitton Coat, beating me to it by seconds!”
Donna, a Vuitton fan, too? The fashion world is indeed full of surprises.
