Though recently embroiled in a bitter citywide controversy concerning Saturday road closures at Golden Gate Park, Dede Wilsey put on her best face (and a jaunty evening suit) to host a party for supporters of the San Francisco Opera.
The event was held in anticipation of “Return of the Divas,” a summer long Opera series which will spotlight the performances of Dolora Zajick as Joan of Arc, Ruth Ann Swenson as the Countess Almaviva, and Patricia Racette as Madame Butterfly.
Looking radiant as she greeted guests at her Pacific Heights home, this formidable lady of the San Francisco social scene showed that it takes more than a few nasty remarks to keep a good diva down (fitting, considering the party’s raison d’etre!)
SFluxe hates to get political, but in this struggle between the bicycling environmentalists and the art-loving socialites, we’re firmly on the side of “the Museum crowd” (as they’ve been derisively called.) Can’t one support environmental causes without restricting public access to important museums such as the De Young?

We are excited to publish Drew’s work, and recommend that you go to his site, drewaltizer.com if you’ve been to any of the parties you see covered here. YOU just may be there!
