Helgi Tomasson announced today that Julian MacKay will be joining the San Francisco Ballet as Principal Dancer in the 2021 Season.

The 22-year old moved to Moscow from rural Montana at the age of 11 (with his mother, Teresa) to train full-time at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, becoming the first American to complete both the upper and lower-level school.

A love for ballet runs in the family: his younger brother, Nicholas MacKay, joined him at the Bolshoi, and his two older half-sisters, Maria Sascha Khan and Nadia Khan, are also dancers.

After his professional debut at the age of 17, as Siegfriend in Swan Lake with the Russian State Ballet in Berlin, MacKay’s career has garnered international attention, a modeling contract with Next Management, and over 130,000 Instagram followers.
