While the era of the “It Bag” may have waned in fashion, the desire for gorgeous quality handbags will never go away, and Be Inthavong has quickly become the go-to label for them. No wonder he has drawn fans among some of San Francisco’s most elegant women, like Katie Schwab Paige, Kathryn Lasater and Andrea Schnitzer.
What sets Inthavong apart from everyone else is that he has married the ancient craft of his Laos heritage with a clean, modernist design aesthetic. He created a patented technique of hand-looming very thin strips of leather into silk which is so labor intensive it is said to take a full day just to weave an an inch of his leather-silk hybrid.
Prices are not terribly inaccessible, considering the quality and beauty of the bags ( a medium-sized satchel we recently saw was priced at $1,695).
