Jan. 17: Hot Couture

Missing Piece and The Crucible Presents

HOT COUTURE
A Fusion of Fashion and Fire
January 17th-19th, 2008

Missing Piece and The Crucible team up to set fashion aflame with Hot Couture—a flaming showcase of wearable art by Bay Area designers. This January, The Crucible celebrates its ninth anniversary mixing “flameboyant” performances in collaboration with Missing Piece to celebrate fashion and fine arts.

The Hot Couture fashion show will feature the work of a variety of Bay Area designers including: Chrystie Capelli, Antoniya Ivanova, Super Sugar Ray Ray, Megan Fenske, Lee Granberg, Eimaj Design and Escama Studios, Erin Mahoney, miss velvet cream, Von Stilt Family, Alexandria Von Bromssen, Fluidance, Leila Bazzani, Brigland Studios, O’Lover Hats, Lee Kobus, Kayo, Mythica, Darina Drapkin, Katie Burley and Bad Unkl Sista.

The 3-day run begins with press previews and the Community Night on Thursday with value-priced tickets, and continues through Saturday evening’s special VIP gala that includes catered food and drinks, a silent auction, and special performances by renowned cellist, Zoe Keating, and contoritionist, Serchmaa Byamba. Ticket prices range from $15 to $150, and are available online at www.thecrucible.org.

Though the Crucible is best known for spectacular events, such as the annual Fire Arts Festival, the Fire Ballet and Operas, events are only a small part of what goes on at this Oakland-based art center and school of industrial arts and fire arts. Through its hundreds of classes in the industrial arts, The Crucible promotes creative expression, reuse of materials, and innovative design, which makes it a perfect collaboration with Missing Piece. Missing Piece is an artist representative agency that connects talented emerging Bay Area fashion and costume designers with individuals and industries who want custom wearable art. For more information about Missing Piece visit online at www.missingpiece-sf.com.

All proceeds from the event benefit The Crucible’s arts programs for adults and youth.
