The wonderful annual FOG Design + Art Fair is opening this year with a preview gala on January 13th, 2016, followed by four days of inspirational exhibits and lectures. Held in collaboration with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), it is one of our top 10 must-attend events of the year.
This year we are especially excited about the various events that are hosted in association with the fair.
On the 14th, there will be a luncheon (by invitation only, sorry!), honoring Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, with special guest speaker Sarah Thornton. Systrom and Krieger, through their advent of Instagram, have not only transformed much of the international art world, but have personally become, with their wives, important art collectors in the Bay Area.
From the 15th to the 17th there will be multiple presentations open to the public, including (on the 16th), a screening of Lisa Immordino Vreeland’s fascinating new documentary “Peggy Guggenheim – Art Addict,” which will be introduced by Janet Bishop, the Weisel family curator of painting and sculpture at SFMOMA. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Vreeland.
The fair ends on the 17th with what promises to be an interesting panel discussion, “The Changing Face of San Francisco’s Art Scene,” featuring Alison Gass from the Cantor Arts Center, The Thing Quarterly’s Jonn Herschend, Minnesota Street Project’s Deborah Rappaport, and Claudia Altman Siegel of the Altman Siegel Gallery.
