A photo of Elizabeth Taylor, nude, has been released online. The picture was taken 55 years ago and made public by its owner in the wake of her death on March 23. The photo was shot by Taylor’s longtime friend and confidante, actor Roddy McDowall, in 1956.
Roddy McDowall reportedly promised the actress that he would handle the task tastefully. Taylor, then 24, posed with her eyes closed, kneeling and leaning slightly forward, with her head and tousled hair tilted toward the camera.
The violet-eyed beauty presented the shot as an engagement gift to her third husband, producer Michael Todd, cited by some as the love of her romantically challenged life. The couple married in 1957, but Todd died just 13 months later when his private plane crashed in New Mexico. After the tragedy, Taylor entrusted the photo to her makeup artist Penny Taylor, who sold it to collector Jim Shaudis, who displayed it in his bedroom.
Todd was a theatre and film producer. Known for his 1956 production of Around the World in Eighty Days, which won an Academy Award for Best Picture. Taylor and Todd exchanged vows on February 2, 1957. He was 47 Taylor was 24. This was the third wedding for both of them. The couple had a daughter, Elizabeth Frances (Liza) Todd, born August 7, 1957.
