The widely anticipated new retail concept from Banana Republic, called Edition, has just opened on the Second Floor of the Westfield Centre on Market Street.
Most of the products at the new 1,400-square-foot shop, which features limited edition women’s handbag and jewelry collections, are priced under $100!
But don’t think that the low price means low quality. The limited edition pieces are produced in runs of only 50 to 100 pieces, which is practically unheard of for anything but the most high-end products. Everyone we’ve talked to about the line has been really impressed by the quality of design.
It is the first store of its kind from the massive company, and while executives haven’t said whether there will be more Edition stores, if this launch is a hit, don’t be surprised to see Banana Republic and other major stores directing their attention to affordability, reversing a decade-long trend to ever-more expensive products and brands.
“For our customers today, affordability is paramount and being fashionable is always in style,” Jack Calhoun, president of Banana Republic, told Women’s Wear Daily recently. “Edition is the perfect place for women to update their wardrobe with exquisite, limited edition and affordable accessories, especially in today’s economy.”
Products are made using materials such as Italian leather for handbags and semiprecious stones for jewelry.
The limited run accessories created for Edition won’t be sold online or at any Banana Republic stores, so you’ll need to head over to the Westfield Mall in San Francisco to buy pieces from the collection.
