Last week the Academy of Art University hosted an intimate dinner in honor of Loulou de la Falaise, Robin Givhan and Zac Posen.
Guests included Denise Hale, Willie Brown and Sonja Molodetskaya, Wilkes Bashford, Maria Manetti Farrow, Isha Abdullah, Olivia Hsu Decker, lovely Sally Lohan of WGSN, Dino Ray Ramos of Dressed, several charming folks from The Chronicle, Heather Hartle, Titti Matteoni, Lois Lehrman, Susan Posen (Zac’s mother), Kimball Hastings of Teen Vogue, and others.
It was a delightful evening. One of the highlights for me was meeting Loulou de la Falaise. I adore Loulou. We talked about San Francisco, loss of her friend Berry Berenson during 9/11, and some of the exciting times she had in the decadent ’70s Paris.
But first, she had to have her photo taken, which turned out more complicated than one might think. When Scotty Morris took the first shot, either Loulou or Robin Givhan had her eyes closed, so he had them pose again.
“Okay. Look at me, ladies. Look at me. Keep your eyes closed,” he told them.
“One more. Close them.”
“There we go. We got them this time.”
As if the woman who’s had her every look captured on film since 1969 needed to be told how it’s done. And if only the same could be said of me. I’m hopeless before the camera. I freeze, and once I see the results I take to bed for days. Trust me, when I saw the photo of Loulou and me, I immediately went on a diet. I must say, though, that everyone else looks fabulous!
